Thinking sociologically - an introduction

Annotation

The course introduces first-semester students to sociology and the nature of the study in social sciences. Students will learn the basic principles of sociological reasoning and understand the relationship between sociology and society.

They will be introduced to sociological work through thematically defined lectures. Students will learn to read and discuss an expert text and gradually begin to use professional sociological knowledge to interpret social reality.

They will use this knowledge in researching their first steps and experiences at university in the form of diary entries and their sociological analysis. They will share and discuss the progress of their research in seminars; the most significant findings will be presented at the final mini-conference, which will serve as a source of topics and feedback for the students' final theses.
