Introduction to the Old Testament

Syllabus

1. General introduction to the Scripture (Inspiration, Canon of the OT and of the NT, biblical languages, manuscripts, ancient translations, history and archeology of the Old Israel).

2. The Lord's Law in the five books of Moses (narrative and legislative texts, main theological lines: the history of origins, the history of Patriarchs, Israel on the desert, Decalogue).

3. The Prophets and the their literature (the phenomenon of prophecy, the "first" prophets - deuteronomical historiography, the "later" prophets - Isaiah, Jeremy, Ezekiel, Dodekapropheton).

4. Wrightings (Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Meghilloth, Chronicler, Daniel).

5. Deuteronomical books (historical, prophetical, Wisdom of Salomon, Wisdom of Jesus the Son of Sirach).

Annotation

Basic problems of the Old Testament in the studies of theology. The course of lections introduce the students to the Holy Scripture, to the parts of the Hebrew Bible and to the Deuterocanonical books.

The students are led as to the general view on the theological lines in the Scripture as to the concrete relation to the short basic extracts of the Scripture to adopt concrete work with the text as a basic skill. It is taken in to account as both aparts of the Holy Scripture as the whole of catholic theology.
