Selected topics are tracked in chronological order in a wide range of current research approaches, which discuss order strategies monarch and court, contextual issues of function and acceptance of works of art as well as traditional methods of style and iconography.
The course deals with the topic of free and applied (architectural) sculpture emerging during the reign of the
Luxembourg dynasty (the kings John, Charles IV, Wenceslas IV and Sigismund), i.e. roughly the time period 1310–1437. During the Luxembourg era, Bohemia gradually became an important artistic region, where Prague as a royal residence played a primary role. Especially during the reign of Charles IV and his sons, the Prague
Court became a key international art center, whose resonance can be observed throughout Central Europe. The issue is followed on selected topics in chronological order in a wide range of current research approaches, which deal with the ordering strategies of the monarch and court, contextual issues of function and reception of artworks by contemporary society, as well as traditional methods of style and iconography.
