Practical intership in botany - 20 days

Class at Faculty of Science |
MB120C125

Annotation

The aim of the practical internship in botany is to encourage students to try out practical work in the field and thus gain hands-on experience in their field of study. This practical internship can take place either at a workplace in the

Czech Republic or anywhere abroad. The internship can be hosted by a research organization or university, a nature conservation body, a museum, an environmental education center or even a company dedicated to work in the field. The internship must last a minimum of 10/20 working days. In well-justified cases, it can be divided into several smaller periods spent at the same workplace (for example, due to care for a small child).

Recognition of the internship for this course is conditional on a) approval of the internship by the course supervisor prior to its commencement - the name of the institution, the internship plan, the time schedule and confirmation of acceptance by the internship supervisor from the planned workplace must be provided, b) submission of a brief (1 page) report on the internship as confirmed by the internship supervisor, and c) a 10-minute presentation of the results of the internship at a specialized seminar announced by the course supervisor several times a year as required.

The internship must not take place at the workplace of the bachelor's/diploma/dissertation supervisor. The practical placement may include participation in a specialized course at another workplace if it lasts for the required duration, or if, for example, a one-week course at the workplace is combined with a subsequent practical placement there.

The student may receive funding for the placement, this is entirely up to the student's agreement with the host workplace. However, a classical part-time job in a research or similar institution (e.g. every Friday I weigh biomass from an experiment at the Botanical Institute) cannot be considered an internship; on the contrary, an actual research project with the required duration at the Botanical Institute completely outside the actual bachelor's or master's thesis can be considered an internship - but it must not take place in the department of the supervisor or consultant. The line between an internship and a traditional temporary job can be narrow, the main criterion being whether you learn any new skills during the internship that contribute to your further development. As you must have the internship approved in advance, it will be possible to confirm the suitability of the planned internship in advance.

You can enroll for the course repeatedly at undergraduate and masters and doctoral level. However, individual internships must take place in different departments and have completely different content.

Internships can be carried out as part of an Erasmus project or, for example, as part of a mobility trip supported by the Mobility Fund.

Examples of traineeships:

Implementation and practical evaluation of management impacts within a conservation organization, including

NGOs

FRANKFURT SPRING SCHOOL ON CONSERVATION PROJECT MANAGEMENT https://frankfurtspringschool.de/

Participation in a research project at any workplace

Implementation of environmental education projects within an institution dedicated to this activity

Internship in a company dedicated to environmental impact assessment or water quality analysis

Arranging a specific internship is entirely up to the student. However, we will try to post any internship offers received from outside here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Pa7yA6phprn4s0u6yOYnS3QXt2_UoaY-w2u6IM_w1WM/edit#gid=0.

The internship can only be entered into SIS after the actual implementation, but the internship must be approved by the course supervisor before it starts. I.e. it is possible to plan, have the internship approved and implemented in the summer, but not enroll in SIS until the following winter term. The course exists in 10 and 20 working day versions (5/10 credits). The correct course must be selected according to the planned length. The language version of the course depends on the language of the internship.
