1. Importance of the International Code of the Botanical Nomenclature, nomenclatural rules - historical view, international botanical congresses, nomenclature committees. 2. Principles and rules of botanical nomenclature, recommendations. Explanation of individual rules and articles of the Code on examples.

- typification, priority

- names of taxa in different ranks

- effective and valid publication

- citations of author's names and literature for the nomenclatural purposes

- rejection of names

- orthography of names

- specific cases (names of fungi with a pleomorphic life cycle etc.) 3. Practical application of individual articles based on selected examples.

Please note, the lectures are given in Czech language. English version of the course can be requested in advance if there are at least 3 students.

The course is designed to teach students how to use the international rules of botanical nomenclature. The importance of nomenclature rules.

Historic development of nomenclature, botanical congresses, nomenclature committees. International Code of Botanical Nomenclature.

Basic principles of the Code (priority, starting point, typification, 'Kew-rule', etc.). Detailed explanation of individual articles of the Code; interpretation, using examples to illustrate the principles.

Conserved names, rejected names, and names in common use. Literature references for the requirements of botanical nomenclature.
