The basic course in plant anatomy and physiology will provide a comprehensive understanding of the structure of the plant cell, the plant body, plant growth and development and will discuss the basic physiological processes taking place in plants with a focus on the functions of plants in various ecosystems. It emphasizes the interconnectedness between structure and function and the relationship of plants with the environment.
Structural and functional acclimation and adaptation of plants will be discussed in the context of the phylogenetic evolution of life on Earth. The reaction of plants to abiotic and biotic stress, interactions with other organisms in the ecosystem, the role of plants in the global circulation of substances, in climate formation will be discussed.
Plant biotechnologies and their importance for solving global ecological problems will also be discussed. Emphasis will be placed on the role of plants in the currently ongoing global climate change, the importance of plants in solving a number of global problems.
Also, the basic principles of crop production will be mentioned. Next, we will discuss the basics of the optical properties of foliage for monitoring vegetation, mainly based on the spectral curve of foliage reflectance, the interpretation of reflectance data and the use of remote sensing of vegetation to study various functions of plants in ecosystems.
