Practical course in recombinant microorganisms in biotechnology

Class at Faculty of Science |
MB140C63

Syllabus

Experimental part of cultivation practice focused on production of bacterial strains in continuously stirred bioreactor (CSTR)   1) Single batch fermentation in a stirred bioreactor - example of microbial product production in a closed system, where all nutrients will be consumed during cultivation, resulting in accumulation of biomass and extracellular product. 2) Fed-fermentation in a stirred bioreactor - example of cultivation of recombinant high-expression bacterial system, where nutrients will be controlled in the course of cultivation, flow rate of substrate stock solution is controlled by dissolved oxygen concentration (pO2)

Annotation

Practicum supplements the lecture "Recombinant microorganisms in biotechnology" about practical tasks advanced by cultivation of microorganisms in stirred bioreactor. Students will evaluate and deal with experiments individually.

Practical course is aimed for graduate students of Microbiology and other disciplines. Practical course takes place in the Microbiological Institute of the Academy of Science.
