Syllabus

Cloning in animals: reproductive and therapeutical cloning. Different grades of pluripotency in cells. Embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent cells. Xenotransplantations. Pluripotency, reprogramming and epigenetic changes.

The main features of gene therapy. Interesting protocols for therapy hereditary or age related diseases.

Gene interactions of tumorsupressor gene TP53 and main principles of its regulation: gene structure and mutations, protein structure and posttranslational modifications. Interacting proteins.

Sex chromosomes and gene dosage compensation. Regulation of X inactivation. X skewing and disease phenotype in heterozygous females.

Assessing of mutagenicity in food: main classes of mutagens present in food, antimutagens, different test and its application..

New topics from 2019: Genome-Wide Association Studies for Human Complex Trait Genetics DNA reparation, cell cycle checkpoints, cancer therapy (the function, regulation and interaction of selected genes/ proteins) Oogenesis - recombination, aneuploidy, DNA reparation, mother age effect, embryo quality)

Annotation

The course consists of few independent lectures giving the students idea about the recent trends in genetics. The main subjects of the lectures are: cloning in animals , gene therapy, gene interactions of tumorsupressor gene TP53, dosage compensation of sex chromosome linked genes, regulation of X chromosome inactivation, mutagen testing in food, etc. The list of topics will be modified every year.
