Syllabus

The course introduces the most important human pathogens, their characteritics, the basics of pathogenesis of relevant diseases, the basics of their diagnosis, the basics of immunization, the basics of antibiotic, antiviral and antiparasitic therapy. This knowledge is taught in optional lectures and is a prerequisite for passing the oral examination; the range of knowledge required is detailed in the attached list of examination questions.

Credit is also awarded for practical lessons providing basic skills in bacteriological examination of selected clinical materials, introduction to methods of collection of selected clinical materials, strategies for identification of bacteria and strategies for antibiotic therapy. Active participation in the practical exercises is needed to get the credit..

Annotation

The course provides basic information in special medical microbiology, virology and parasitology. It introduces the most important human pathogens, their properties, the basics of pathogenesis of the respective diseases, the basics of their diagnosis, the basics of immunization, the basics of antibiotic, antiviral and antiparasitic therapy.

It provides basic skills of bacteriological examination of selected clinical materials, introduces methods of collection of clinical materials, strategies for identification of bacteria and antibiotic therapy. Lectures and practicals take place at the 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University in the course "Microbiology 2, B00382" taught at the 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University.
