Annotation

Basic histological course connecting knowledge of cell biology, cell physiology with histological level of knowledge. Emphasis will be placed on methods of histological research, including advances in defining individual cell types by the so-called single-cell analytical approach.

Individual histological categories (epithelia, connective tissue, nerve cells, muscle, blood and blood elements) in relation to function will be systematically discussed together with links to the physiology of the multicellular organism. Furthermore, emphasis will be placed on the biomedical aspect of functional histology - eg tumor transformation, metabolic and hereditary diseases, diseases of civilization, tissue and organ engineering.
