Annotation

The aim of the lecture course is to provide an overview of various animal models used in developmental biology. Naturally, any model organism has some advantages and some disadvantages.

For this reason, the course is dealt with as a comparison of individual models with the aim that students will be able to choose the appropriate model in the future to solve a given scientific problem. having regard to its scientific interests. The course will include vertebrates and invertebrates, but much attention will be paid to the mouse model as a key organism for biomedicine.

Emphasis will be placed on explanation of available experimental approaches (methodologies of work) and existing sources (databases, collections of mutants, etc.). For almost every model organism its unique and irreplaceable contribution to biology can be found.
