Syllabus

This lecture deals with primary principles of freshwater aquaristics in several lessons 1/ history and meaning of aquaristics, aquarium proportions, aquarium locations, technical accessories, artificial light, temperature, water quality, pH, water hardness, water conductivity, gases in water, turbidity of water, clearing water, changing the waters, sand and decorations (rocks and roots), kind of aquariums, management of various aquarium tanks 2/ algae (green algae, blue-green algae, diatoms), snails, enemies (water invertebrates), water plants and planting, meaning of water plants, common plant species 3/ feeding of fishes, live foods, dried and frozen foods, artificial foods, feeding of baby fishes, 4/ fundamenal anatomy and physiology of aquarium fishes, color varieties, shape varieties, principles of fish keeping and breeding, ecology of aquarium fishes 5/ ethology of aquarium fishes (shoal effect, teritoriality, foraging behaviour, color changing, epigamic behaviour, parental, paternal, maternal care) 6/ diseases of fishes, parasites, treatment of fishes 7/ keeping and breeding freshwater invertebrates, amphibians, reptiles, common species 8/ keeping and breeding of selected families and aquarium fish species
