Measurements of absorption spectra in UV,VIS and near IR region.
Russel-Saunders coupling, energy of terms, Slater-Condon and Racah parameters, nephelauxetic effect.
Correlation diagram for weak and strong ligand field, Orgel and Tanabe-Sugano diagrams.
Parameters of ligand field strangth, spectrochemical series, angular overlap model.
Charge transfer spectra and optical electronegativity.
Selection rules, oscilator strength and transition moment.
Faraday and Gouy methods of measurement of magnetic susceptibility.
Van Vleck equation, magnetic properties of A, E and T terms, Kotani diagrams.
Ferromagnetic and antirerromagnetic interactions, direct exchange and super-exchange mechanisms.
The lecture is dedicated to students of MSc. degree.
The lecture deals with the principles of the electronic spectroscopy and magnetochemistry and their applications to inorganic chemistry, particularly the chemistry of coordination compounds. The main subjects are the interpretation of ligand field and charge transfer spectra and evaluation of ligand field splitting and Racah parameters and magnetic properties of magnetically diluted samples.
The course is designed for Master and PhD students.
