Annotation

Physico-chemical techniques in the biochemical laboratory (fundamental theory, instrumentations, applications). Sources of error, signal-to-noise ratio and methods for its improvement. Interaction of electromagnetic waves with matter and potential of spectral methods. Rotational and vibrational (infrared, Raman) spectroscopy, resonance spectroscopy (NMR and EPR spectra, magnetic susceptibility. Mösssbauer spectra). Electronic emission, absorption, luminiscence. Optical activity, CD and ORD spectra. Optoacoustic spectrometry, sonography, and other imaging methods. Size and shape of molecules (elastic light scattering, analytical ultracentrifuge, viscosity, colligative methods, zeta potential, SAXS). Difraction analysis (X-ray difraction). Chemical structure and compositions of biopolymers (mass spectrometry), sequencing and synthesis of proteins, nucleic acids, PCR and related methods of molecular biology. Thermal analysis, calorimetry. Kinetics of biochemical reactions, fermentors, fast kinetic techniques (stopped-flow, relaxation techniques, time-resolved spectral methods), analysis of biopolymer interaction with small molecules.
