ELECTROCHEMISTRY
Strong electrolytes (activity coefficient, Debye-Hückel theory, the solubility product). Weak electrolytes (acid-base equilibria, buffers, acid-base titration and indicators, ampholytes). Transport of ions in electric field (conductivity, mobility, transport numbers). Galvanic cells and electrodes (Nernst equation, varieties of electrodes, potentiometry). Polarisation of electrodes and polarography.
THE KINETIC THEORY OF GASES
Maxwell distribution of speeds and energies, collisions with wall, the rate of effusion, intermolecular collisions, transport properties.
CHEMICAL KINETICS
Rate law of elementary and simultaneous (parallel, opposite, consecutive) reactions. Rate of reaction theories (Arrhenius theory, collision theory, the Lindemann mechanism of unimolecular reactions, activated complex theory). Catalysis, kinetic salt effect, chain reaction, photochemical reaction.
