Field Trip of Historical and Stratigraphical Geology

Class at Faculty of Science |
MG421T05

Syllabus

The excursion days are focused on localities representing various periods of geological time. From all the days, one day Paleozoic localities are visited (usually in the Barrandian), one Mesozoic (Upper Cretaceous) and one Cenozoic (usually Tertiary in the north Bohemia). Four to five localities are usually studied every excursion day. Explanations cover:

1) general geological characteristics of relevant period,

2) geological characteristics of the visited area,

3) characteristics of the locality and its surroundings,

4) interesting geological features available at the locality. The join part is followed by individual study, measures and sampling. The visit is concluded by join remarks, determination of material.

Annotation

The excursion is focused on demonstration of some information from the courses on historical and stratigraphical geology. Depending on the season and state of localites examples of different geological periods occurring in the Bohemian Massif are selected.

Individual excursion days usually cover examples in the Lower Palaeozoic, Cretaceous and Tertiary.
