Syllabus

1. Introduction: main methods and approaches of cuticular analysis

2. Terminology used in a description of fossil cuticles with respect to different types of plants (ferns, gymnosperms, angiosperms)

3. Systematical anatomy of leaves and overview of important members of Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic floras

4. Main part: practical exercise in preparation of fossil cuticle - from laboratory to light and SEM microscopy Aim is to learn how to handle with fossil cuticles, how to prepare them , observe them and finally how to describe them using the right terminology

Cuticular analysis aims to present a practical skill in laboratory using different techniques and methods, based on various types of fossil leave material (Paleozoic, Mesozoic, Cenozoic...)
