Palaeobiology of Precambrian and Early Palaeozoic

Syllabus

Basic types of recent and fossil ecosystems will be analysed in individual blocks. The development of relations within individual types of associations, including the recently oldest known appearance of separate types of relations will be discussed in detail. Types of fossilisation processes, palaeoecology of individual organisms and methods hoe to undestand the fossilisation processes will be explained. The contents of the most important taphonomic windows (= lagersttäten) in the world will be discussed (Bitter Springs, Ediacara, Doushantou, Burgess Shale, Chengjian, Kaili, Soom Shale, Rhynie Cherts). The analyses will be supplemented by information on the stratigraphic ranges and palaeoenvironments represented by these lagersttäten (watter depth, salinity O2 content, relation in situ, allochtoneity, …). Similarly will be discussed also the fossil content of taphonomic windiws established in the Bohemian Massif: Precambrian stromatolites, Paseky Shale Member, Jince Formation, Klabava and Šárka formations, Řevnice Quartzites, Kosovo Formation, Kopanina Formation. Structure of separate blocks:

1. recent knowledge,

2. stratigraphy, facies and taphonomy,

3. examples of the most important fossils - major part,

4. palaeoekology,

5. geographic distribution(palaeogeography, recent geography),
