Syllabus

The course informs participants on principles of biostratigraphy. It provides a discussion on characteristics of units, terminology, historical aspects, biostratigraphical correlations, and relations to other branches of stratigraphy.

Usage of units and practical problems are demostrated. Some parts of the course has an interactive form focused on discussions on selected biostratigraphical topics.

It is also paid an attention to reworking of fossils. Standards in biostratigraphy, general questions on taxonomy, and bilogical evolution comprise another whole of topics.

In the final part of the course, each participant elaborate and report on a topic published in scientific literature.

Annotation

The goal of this course is to gain a deeper knowledge on biostratigraphical methods, ways of their correct and modern use, their accuracy and standards. The course helps to participant to consider, evaluate and orient in published data.
