The course is taught in 4 afternoon blocks and contains the following subjects: Principles of hydrogeochemical modelling. Thermodynamic databases.
Speciation in solutions and calculation of saturation indices. Equilibrium of solutions with gases and minerals.
Reactions and solution mixing. Surface complexation and sorption on hydrous ferric oxides.
Ion exchange and sorption to clay minerals. Transport modelling.
Basics of kinetics.
The course focuses on practical application of the PHREEQC cod efor solving geochemical problems of solid-solution interactions, which can be modelled in uncontaminated and contaminated environments (dissolution, precipitation, mixing, speciation, equilibration with gases and solids, adsorption, ion Exchange, transport, kinetics).
