MG432P04

Syllabus

The course consists of 12 3-hours lasting lessons dividied into following topics:

1. Forms of the fossil organic matter occuring in the Earth crust.

2. Genetic types of fossil fuels (kaustobioliths) a their origin.

3. The main coal-forming periods in the Earth history and their characteristics. Geology of the deposits of fossil fuels and methods of their exploitation.

4. Overview of the world-important deposits of coal, oil and gas, tar sands, oil shales, shale gas, etc. Estimated reserves of fossil fuels.

5. Exploitation of fosil fuel deposits, world trade with fossil fules (export, import).

6. Fossil fuel deposits of the Czech Republic and perspectives of their use.

7. Charakteristics of renewable energetic sources and perspectives of their use in world-scale.

8. Perspectives of use of fossil fuels and renewable energetic sources in Czech Republic.

Annotation

The course provides information on geology and genesis of fossil fuels, their distribution in the Earth crust and main centres of their exploitation. Second part of the course provides an overview of the currently used forms of the non-traditional, especially renewable energetic resources.
