Essentials of microscopic and analytical techniques of artistic materials

Class at Faculty of Science |
MG432P43

Syllabus

Practical demonstration of techniques used in the characterisation of artistic materials including: optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy with microanalysis, cathodoluminiscence, microfractography, petrographic image analysis, microscopic techniques for rock fabric characterisation, powder X-ray diffraction, methods of thermal analyses, application of spectroscopic techniques (FTIR, Raman)

Annotation

A specialized course that will be provided by a panel of experts on individual methods and techniques – approaches in microscopic analysis of natural stones, mortars, and other materials used in heritage structures, sample preparation, optical microscopy, electron microscopy, quantitative microscopic analysis, evaluation of materials provenance and/or manufacturing based on microscopic data; phase analysis by XRD, uses of spectroscopic techniques (FTIR, Raman), thermal analysis of mortars, quantitative analysis of pore space and interpretation of durability
