Annotation

Target students: master and doctoral level

This advanced course offers overview of thermodynamic relationships and phase diagram principles applicable in mineralogy, petrology, geochemistry, economic geology as well as mineral physics. The course has two sections - the first part concentrates on thermodynamic laws, types of energy and equations of state for solid, liquid and fluid substances at elevated temperatures and pressures. The second part concentrates on construction features of phase diagrams, interpretation of phase stabilities, melting and crystallization paths in multicomponent systems and their applications in geology.
