Scaling of geophysical projects. Application of geophysical methods in geological and engineering practice.
• Gravity methods: Overview of potential field methods physical background, gravity units, densities of rocks. Measuring gravity, gravimeters, survey planning and data acquisition, data reductions. Gravity modelling and inversion.
• Geomagnetic methods: Magnetic units, Earth’s magnetic field, magnetic properties of rocks. Magnetometers, magnetic surveying. Magnetic modelling, transformations.
• Resistivity methods: Overview of physical background. Resistivity profiling, array scanning, vertical electric sounding. Qualitative and quantitative interpretation, inversion, deconvolution.
• Self-potential methods, induced polarization. Application examples.
• Electromagnetic methods: Principles, types of EM systems. Continuous-wave and time-domain EM systems. VLF methods. Magnetotelluric method. Ground-Penetrating radar.
• Radiometric methods: Natural radiation overview. Radioactivity of rocks. Data acquisition, types of detectors, data corrections.
• Seismic refraction and reflection methods: Seismic waves propagation, elastic parameters of rocks. Principles of refraction and reflection surveying. Data acquisition methods, seismic sources, geophones, hydrophones, seismographs. Data processing and interpretation.
• Well logging methods: Overview of the logging methods, specifics of the borehole environment. Logging equipment. Tomography methods.
