Syllabus

Processing of seismic signals

1. Basics of seismic signal processing. Seismic signal. Fourier transform and its properties, convolution and correlation. Frequency spectrum properties.

2. Frequency analysis of time-varying signal. Short Fourier transform, Wavelet transform.

3. Analysis of complex seismic trace.

4. Polarization analysis.

5. Filtering of seismic signals, filters. Single-channel filtering: Filtering of signal of known shape, correlation filters, the correlation in the Vibroseis method.

6. Single channel filtering - continued: inverse filters, optimal Wiener filters, deconvolution.

7. Multichannel filtering, two-dimensional Fourier transform, two-dimensional spectrum of a multi-channel seismic recording, two-dimensional discrete Fourier transform, the apparent velocity in two-dimensional spectrum, two-dimensional correlation.

8. Optimal multi-channel filtering, summation of plane waves, the use of "semblance".

9.  Seismic migration. Ray migration, migration by diffraction summation, wave-form migration.

10. Seismic tomography.

11. Surface waves and their use in shallow seismic survey. The velocity dispersion and the dispersion curve - basic examples.
