The course concerns with high-impact weather phenomena such as heat waves, frosts, lightning, strong winds, heavy rains, hail, snowstorms etc. The phenomena are considered as anomalies in meteorological variables, connected with atmospheric processes on various spatial as well as temporal scales.
Following aspects of the phenomena will be presented: definition and possible classification, causes, impacts and preventive measures, monitoring and prediction, evaluation of extreme events, geographical and temporal distribution.
