Annotation

Methods in Social Geography I are intended for students in the fields of geography (LS), demography (WS) and social geography and geoinformatics (WS) in the second year of bachelor study. The course consists of lectures, which present the basics of quantitative and qualitative research, and exercises.

The exercises focus on practicing the basic methods of geographic research and improving skills and competences, with particular emphasis on processing statistical data, interpreting and presenting them, as well as working with text, including its analysis. Some exercises focuse on practicing several kinds of methods.

Generally, the emphasis is on working in small teams. The course outputs include a created portfolio, work with a questionnaire and text analysis.

Part of the lectures and exercises is realized in English so that students can passively and actively use the English language and be more prepared for the international environment (presentation in English, listening to English lectures, etc.).
