Syllabus

- Review (narrative review) vs. Systematic review vs. Meta-analysis: characteristics

- Systematic review: structure, elements, advantages, data sources, assigning weight to studies in a systematic review, evaluating systematic review, databases in the Cochrane Library

- Meta-analysis: systematic analysis of the results, rationale, goals, main types, general approaches to meta-analysis: Fixed effects and Random effects, The Funnel plot, Biases in meta-analysis data sources, evaluating, advantages, disadvantages  

Annotation

The course prepares students to critically evaluate and review papers and distinguish between general review papers, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses. It therefore gives students the ability to critically work with literature and data sources which they can use during studies and in practice.

The course is organized as a one-day intensive lecture.
