LECTURES:1) Introduction, organizational information     Second housing as an object of geographical study, position within tourism,     interdisciplinarity, literature and terminology2) Data base, methodical approaches - land-use, recreational potential, load,    recreational functions, field research, sociological approaches, cartographic expressions,      typology3) Development of second housing in the world    Development of Second Housing in the Czech Republic - Part 1 - Beginnings, Periods between World Wars    influence of tramping, period after WWII War until the late 60s, 70s and 80s, the current state of the second    housing4) Factors and contexts related to the second residence - satisfaction of recreational needs,    quality of natural environment, urbanization processes, transport accessibility, regional and local    politics and economy, real estate market, lifestyle5) Spatial expansion of second housing in the Czech Republic, movement for recreation6) Central Bohemian recreation area and hinterland of Prague - areas of main concentration7) Regional differentiation of second housing in the Czech Republic8) Present and perspectives of second housing - trends in the world, relation to other forms of tourism, relation to permanent housing, shift to seasonal and permanent housing, holiday apartments and villages, real estate market, generation problems, regional and regional identity, residential tourism etc. EXERCISES:• Essay assignment - “My personal relationship and experience with second residence” - 2-3 p.• Research of the chapter (2-3 pages + presentation of 8-10 slides in .ppt)• Field excursions• Group work in the field (according to your own time choice) - will be specified

Annotation

Optional course. Presented lectures and seminars try to cover the problematics of second housing - a part of recreational activities of population. Introductory lectures explain terminology, position of second housing in the system of recreation and tourism, point out the interdisciplinarity and specific approaches to the problematics not only from the position geographers but from point of view of other specialists (sociologist, economists etc.).The main stress is given to second housing in the Czech republic, to historical background, present development and perspectives in spatial context, to the main factors and consequenses of the distribution. Special attention is paid to the hinterland of Prague. Seminars will concern mainly selected locations within the Prague recreational system.
