Class at Faculty of Mathematics and Physics |
NAFY083

Syllabus

Data formats ASCII, NetCDF, GRIB, tools for managing these data formats, their conversion info different formats necessary for further processing and analysis. Sources of meterological and climatic data.

Verification of the outputs of numerical weather prediction models, statistical characteristics of forecast skill.

Validation of the outputs of climate models, various statistical characteristics of the accordance between simulated and observed data, problematic issues in evaluation of climate model’s skill in simulating observed climatic conditions.

Annotation

The aim of the seminar is to provide students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in analysis and application of outputs of numerical models used in the field of atmospheric physics, both prognostic and climatic.

The attention will be paid to practices of prediction evaluation, verification and validation of model simulations, as well as data formats used for meteorological data storage.
