Syllabus

Composition and structure of the Earth‘s atmosphere, daily and annual cycle of meteorological characteristics, stability criteria of air masses, application in thermodynamic diagrams. Air masses.

Atmospheric fronts, pressure systems, their structure and development with respect to the diagnostic methods and weather forecasting. Basic principles of ideal and real fluids.

Fundamentals of thermodynamics in meteorology, hydrostatic equilibrium and approximation of the Earth’s atmosphere, heat exchange in the system of the Earth - atmosphere, coordinate systems and motion of the atmosphere. Time tendencies in the atmosphere, atmospheric energetics.

Annotation

Students will gain knowledge on basic principles of fluid dynamics, structure of the Earth’s atmosphere, thermodynamic processes in the atmosphere and motion of the atmosphere, about air masses and their properties, atmospheric fronts and pressure systems.
