Fundamentals of Polymer Structure Formation

Class at Faculty of Mathematics and Physics |
NBCM060

Syllabus

1) Fundamentals of macromolecular physics: monomer, oligomer, polymer, molecular weight distribution, linear branched and cross-linked polymers, copolymers.

2) Basic types of polymerization: chain polymerization (radical, ionic), step-growth polymerization (polycondensation, polyaddition).

3) Amorphous and semicrystalline polymers, phase transitions (crystallization, glass transition), segmental dynamics and nanoconfinement effects caused by the presence of nanoparticles and surfaces

4) Formation of macromolecular structures by vacuum and plasma methods.

5) Basic concepts of plasma physics, direct current and radio frequency discharge in gases.

6) Plasma polymerization: from gaseous precursors, by magnetron sputtering, plasma-assisted thermal evaporation, and using hyperthermal polyatomic ion beams.

7) Nanostructured plasma polymers: thin films, 2D nanoislands, 3D nanoparticles, nanophase separation in plasma copolymers, nanocomposite plasma polymers

8) Polymer nanofluids: "green" synthesis using a gas aggregation source of nanoparticles, preparation of optically active nanofluids

9) Nanostructuring of polymer surface by plasma etching.
