Syllabus

* 1. Introduction to reaction kinetics

Rate of the reaction, order of the reaction, reactions approaching equilibrium, reverse reactions, consequent reactions, monomolecular reactions. Theory of reaction rate. Potential energy surfaces. Enthalpy and entropy of reakcion. Arrhenius reaction rate.

* 2. Ion-molecule reactions

Introduction to theory of ion-molecule reactions at thermal energies. Molecular structure. Frank-Condon principle. Influence of temperature and kinetic energy on rate of the ion-molecule reactions. Reactions of rotationally, vibrationally and electronically excited ions. Experimental techniques used in studies of ion-molecule reactions at low temperatures. Stationary and flowing afterglow. Drift tubes.

* 3. Elementary processes in low temperature plasma

Electron-ion recombination in plasma. Ion-molecule reactions in gas lasers, plasmo-chemical reactors and discharge plasmas. Relaxation processes in plasma. Electron energy distribution function. Interaction of plasma with surfaces, plasma technologies.

Basic introduction to elementary processes and reactions in plasma. Introduction to reaction kinetics, reaction rate, entropy and enthalpy of reaction, collision processes (ionization, excitation, de-excitation, chemical reactions, recombination, etc.), ion – molecule reactions and corresponding experimental techniques, influence of internal state of ions on reaction rate, ion-molecule reactions in gas lasers, plasmo-chemical reactors and discharge plasmas, plasma technologies.
