Selected Topics on Positron Annihilation Spectroscopy

Class at Faculty of Mathematics and Physics |
NFPL128

Syllabus

* Variable energy positron beams.

The generation and transport of positron beams. The main application areas of PAS on positron beams: the investigations of thin films and interfaces, the depth-profiling of defects. The high-energy positron beams and PAS. Condensed matter studies with polarised positrons. The intense positron beams.

* Positron microscopy.

* Positron-annihilation-induced Auger electron spectroscopy.

The principle of the technique. The applications of the method and comparison with the classical Auger electron spectroscopy.

* Low-energy positron diffraction.

The principle of the technique. The applications of the method and comparison with the classical electron diffraction.

Annotation

Fundamentals of positron annihilation spectroscopy (PAS). Advanced experimental techniques of PAS: variable energy positron beams, positron microscopy, positron-annihilation-induced Auger electron spectroscopy, low-energy positron diffraction.

Recommended for students of 3rd year of Bc. study and 1st or 2nd year of Mgr. study of physics, teaching, as well as for doctoral students.
