Syllabus

1. Satellite observations and measurements

Advanced image products – their detailed interpretation, with focus on MSG and MTG satellites. Retrieved meteorological products, generated by EUMETSAT and NOAA. Satellite Application Facility (SAF) – overview and products. Nowcasting SAF (NWCSAF) – its products and utilization. COPERNICUS program and services – data products and their applications. Principles of (passive) hyperspectral satellite atmospheric soundings; space-borne active sounders – radars and lidars. Lightning detection from geostationary satellites. 2.Radar measurements

Advanced correction methods of radar precipitation estimates. Methods of very short range forecast (nowcasting) based on remote sensing data. International cooperation in the field of radar meteorology, international exchange of radar data, EUMETNET-OPERA project, European radar data center and generation of European weather radar composites, their utilization in NWP modeling. Polarimetric measurements, new technologies. Doppler velocity, its interpretation, vertical profile of wind measurement. 3. GPS RO profiles, basic principles, satellites systems and data centers, derivation of basic and advanced variables, utilization for analysis of the lower and middle atmosphere.
