The aim of this course is to acquaint students with the main tendencies in the development of American drama in the 20th century from the beginnings of modern American drama (E. O´Neill), through the post-World-War-II classic plays of A.

Miller, T. Williams, the "theatre of the absurd" (E.

Albee) to the contemporary multi-faceted American drama (the cultural criticism of Sam Shepard, David Mamet), black theatre (August Wilson), as well as feminist and gay drama.
