Week 2:  EU institutions; 2-3 EU countries

Week 3:  Languages in the EU; 2-3 EU countries

Week 4:  Multiculturalism;  2-3 EU countries

Week 5:  EU regions;  2-3 EU countries

Week 6:  Festivals in EU countries; 2-3 EU countries

Week 7:  Protected regional products; 2-3 EU countries

Week 8:  Current  issues in EU; 2-3 EU countries

Week 9:  EU  values and symbols; 2-3 EU countries

Week 10: CR and EU; 2-3 EU countries

Week 11: UK and EU;  2-3 EU countries

Week 12: Current EU issues; candidate countries

Annotation

The presupposed entry level for this course is B2-C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, attained in the four semesters of the Modern English course. The content is based on the need to get acquainted with and understand the complex situations that exist today in a multicultural European Union. Special emphasis is put on a further development of communicative skills and on the build-up of vocabulary especiay the terminology related to the European Union.

Students are acquainted with the recommendations for successful oral presentations and are required to deliver one presentation in class.

There is no prescribwed text or coursebook for this course.

Requirements for credits: 80% attendance in class, one 15 min. presentation, completion of five shorter writing tasks (approx.150 words each), final vocabulary test pass (passmark 60 %).
