The aim of the course is to develop knowledge and skills already gained in other courses concerning translating and interpreting, mainly in the area of technical language (this being a present-day phenomenon). The course consists of a theoretical and a practical part.
The theoretical part deals with the characteristics of technical language and style, its basic properties and differences in comparison to other functional styles. The main topics are as follows: Grammar differences of technical style, terminology as a basic feature of technical vocabulary, technical-popular style.
The practical part consists of translating various types of technical styles, partly chosen according to the interests of students, partly chosen according to priorities of present-day society, i. e. juristic style, business German. Texts are translated from German into Czech.
