After generally discussing the relation of language and communication, this seminar will focus on controversial present-day aspects of the modern German language. The main topic of this seminar to debate will be the communication behaviour in current texts and discourses.
Issues of language and communication in politics, society and modern media will be considered additionally. Since modern media seems to profoundly alter nowadays speech and communication behaviour, the linguistic reflection of such phenomenon is highly required in order to benefit in the field of education.
Using the example of individual texts, aspects such as hate speech, bullying, fake news and so called ‘shitstorms’ will be debated. This course is taught in German.
