Anotace
The seminar introduces students to English electronic corpora. It focuses on corpus linguistics as a method: the students explore corpora of present-day English, learn to formulate queries and interpret the results (e.g. collocations, keywords, sociolinguistic data).
Topics: 1.Simple and complex queries, including CQL syntax 2.Frequency, statistical significance, distribution 3.Keywords, collocations, n-grams 4.Types of corpora (written and spoken English, academic language, learner corpora, translation corpora, regional varieties of English) 5.Presentations of students' projects
