Annotation

The function of the course is partly to remedy, and partly to deepen and enhance the students’ understanding of selected areas of the English language. It focuses mainly on the parole disciplines. It interlinks the theoretical background with the analysis of authentic texts, employing a contrastive approach to genres and languages.

Topics: 1.Text linguistics, standards of textuality, cohesion and coherence, functional sentence perspective 2.Text linguistics and stylistics: register, genre, text type, intertextuality 3.Stylistics: stylistically marked means, spoken and written language 4.Pragmatics: basic principles, conversational maxims, politeness 5.Sociolinguistics: dialect, regional and social varieties of English 6.Psycholinguistics, informativity 7.Complex analysis of a text
