Extending Didactic Skills I

?Extending Didactic Skills I? is a purely practical-orientated course which shows practical applications of the subject matter dealt with in the theoretical parts of Didactics and Methodology of Teaching English. Its main objectives are: 1/ to prepare students for the period of practical training in schools; 2/ to prepare students for their future jobs as English teachers; 3/ to show students everyday life at a school in the Czech Republic, the most important school documents and current legislation; and 4/ to present selected problems at present-day schools and some possible solutions.

In connection with the objectives of the course, we will tackle such topics as: a/ The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, the content of language levels, the division of students into groups according to their knowledge, working in homogenous and heterogenous groups, the selection of textbooks; b/ the everyday activities of a teacher in a primary school, secondary school and language school; c/ the ?new maturita exam? in English as a whole, the assessment of oral and written performances in the exam; d/ the creation of school educational programmes.

The methods used in this seminar will be varied. First of all we will concentrate on the independent home studies of some school documents, presentation of acquired information, discussion with students, work with school documents and sample the works of primary and secondary school students.
