UNIT 1: Success part A: Finding a job

Language input: collocations adj. + noun, phrasal verbs + TAKE expressions, mixed verb forms (present/past; simple/perfect/continuous), irregular verbs part B: Learning experiences

Language input: vocabulary of feelings, the passive

Formal essay: register, academic English, cohesion, coherence

UNIT 2: New Directions part A: Making a difference

Language input: describing attitudes, describing characteristics, phrasal verbs, relative clauses part B: A second chance

Language input: articles, singular/plural nouns, determiners and pronouns

UNIT 3: Leisure time part A: The creative instinct

Language input: synonyms + phrasal verbs, verbs to describe sounds, metaphors, future forms part B: Stars in their eyes

Language input: entertainment, exchanging ideas, modals and semi-modals

Annotation

The course consists of three 45-minute lessons per week in total. Sign up for one 90-minute and one 45-minute lesson.

The aim of the course is to develop students' language skills towards C1 level (CEFR) with a focus on practical skills regarding speaking, reading, writing, and listening. The course is based on systematic work with the core textbook. Homework will be assigned from Advanced Language Practice by Michael Vince.
