Annotation
In its first part, the lecture intends to be an introduction to the French philology and linguistics, specifically, and to the general philology and linguistics. It porposes a presentation of both of these sciences, of their object of study, their subdisciplines, the relations among these, the studied unities, their domains. The different ways are exposed of documenting of the languages, the languages are classified on the basis of several typological proposals.
In the second part, several anthropological, sociological, ethnological and psychological aspects are analysed. The lecture retraces also the crucial phases of the first part of the intern and extern history of the French language as a result of an intersection of specific conditions in the period between the Roman conquest of the Gauls and the central Middle Ages.
