Annotation

The Francophone literature lecture will present the general historical, cultural and literary situation in French-speaking countries in Africa, America, the Antilles and the Middle East in the 20th and 21st centuries. From the end of the 1930s, and then mainly from the 1950s, "smaller" literatures began to assert themselves on a global scale where the European powers had their colonial possessions, or where they intervened culturally.

Presenting these francophone literatures (Quebec, Maghreb, sub-Saharan Africa, Antilles, etc.) is the aim of the lecture primarily through a specific analysis of excerpts from essential "classical" texts (Chamoiseau, Glissant, Césaire) as well as contemporary authors (Diop, Mabanckou, Depestre, Slimani). We add critical and theoretical reflection in the form of postcolonial theories, especially in the Anglo-American, today generally accepted critical and theoretical tradition, e.g.

Edward Saïd (Orientalism, 1978; Culture and Imperialism, 1993), Gayatri Chakraworthy Spivaková (Can the Subaltern Speak?, 1988), Homi K. Bhabha (The Location of Culture, 1994) or Bill Ashcroft (The Empire Writes Back: Theory and Practice in Post-colonial Literatures, 1989).

Main directions, tendencies, literary-scientific terms. The lecture is held in French at the C1-C2 SERR level.

Students will read texts in the French language (at least at C1 level). They will expertly analyze a French excerpt from a literary work.

Innovation "with a focus on strengthening other pedagogical competences" of students is represented by a new reader of French texts from the French-speaking regions of the Caribbean, Canada and Africa with questions for analysis focusing on literary science and the pedagogical practice of French language teachers. Students propose a short interactive task for other students (written or oral): « une activité », which strengthens them in preparing for their future work as a teacher.
