Annotation

The course leads students to a critical reading of professional literature in Czech and English and to understand the theoretical text in the relevant fields of art education and its theory. The focus is on interpretive possibilities of reading and interpretation of relevant content, creation of notes and professional vocabulary, comparison of primary and secondary sources, principles of intertextuality and intervisuality, connectivity of verbal and visual text in the context of contemporary art, visual culture and cultural studies.

Introduction to the form of a visual essay and its claims. The aim is to understand the concept of the discursive construction of knowledge and its connection with the creation of a work of art.

Introduction to basic terminology, selection and assignment of reading, the establishment of a portfolio of notes and interpretations of selected parts of selected literature. Establishment of a collaborative group.

Dialogic part 1 - a critical reflection of selected parts of the reader's portfolio, identification of topics and main questions of the text, the art of asking a question and conducting a dialogue related to the given topic. Dialogic part 2 - connecting thematic parts of the theoretical text with relevant references to works of art or other cultural artefacts.

Colloquium in collaborative groups - presentation of the paper and presentation of its elaboration about relevant visual references. Defence of specialized text or other forms of interpreted content, eg visual essay.
