Annotation

This seminar aims to deepen students’ understanding of topics discussed in the Methodology course and in subjects such as the philosophy of education and problems of the contemporary world in a philosophical perspective. The main goal of the seminar is to teach students how to conduct scientific research, argue, engage in dialogue, and present the results of their research, as well as to introduce students to various methods of the philosophy of education through discussions with experts from fields related to the study program. Engagement with experts from the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences is presumed based on an agreement between this institution and the Pedagogical faculty of Charles University.

The PhD. seminar also serves as a space for students to present their progress on their dissertation.

A description of how to proceed with your presentation during the seminar: 1. Defense of the dissertation’s extended annotation in the PhD. seminar (At first, students must defend an extended annotation to their professor in the Methodological Seminar - Research and Popularization Skills)

- Term: usually the first year of study 2. Main theses of the dissertation:

- The range of these theses correspond to the range of the theoretical aim of a dissertation; these theses must contain all necessary parts of the structure of a dissertation.

- Term: usually the second year of study; the third year is also possible, upon arrangement with a professor 3. Chapters of a dissertation

- Term: all years of study beginning with the third one.

The seminar also gives students the space to present their first drafts of articles written for Czech or foreign conferences, to discuss their first drafts of articles written for other official student activities, or to share experiences from study travels, conferences or other academic events.

The exact requirements for presentations are set by the professors of each department.

In case of internship work or field research, students are excused from attending the seminar, but they still have to present their dissertations.
