Annotation

The aim of the seminar is to provide Master's students with an overview of the system-, variation- and sociolinguistically relevant objects of German. Since variation is the normal case in natural language, the grammar, lexis and pragmatics of the spatial, historical, social, functional and transitory varieties of German will be analysed in addition to the standard language.

The respective differences and dynamics will be worked out, starting from the smallest ranks via morphosyntax to the text level. Using selected texts as examples, students will gain an understanding of the dynamics and constants of the modern German language and at the same time improve their grammatical and semantic knowledge of German.

In addition to deepening their knowledge of methodological approaches, controversial research in modern German linguistics will also be discussed.
