Annotation
The course deals with stylistics as a superstructural linguistic discipline. It focuses on text analysis and creative writing.
It aims at conveying the basic concepts of stylistics and seeks a comparative view of the subject (German studies - Bohemian studies). The course deals with the definition of functional styles and their textual types, analysis of different functional styles.
The course design is based on the knowledge students acquire from structural linguistics, which it links with elementary learning about textual linguistics. The course includes in seminars the practice of stylistic and partly textual analysis and the rehearsal of essays.It takes into account both the stylistic-textual analysis (the approach prevalent in German-speaking countries) and the view of the text as a communication (the approach of Czech-language research).
The aim of the course is to provide students with a basic orientation to the problems of stylistics and stylistic-textual analysis. A secondary aim is to deepen competence in essay writing.
The content of the course can be summarized under the following thematic headings: 1) Definition of stylistics and its relation to linguistic and other social science disciplines. Stylistic research in relation to the various meaning-making levels of structural linguistics and with special reference to textual linguistics.
