Annotation

In terms of language and human history, the digital revolution is placed on the same level as the discovery of printing. Its effects on language and society are the focus of this seminar. After an introduction to media theoretical questions and methods, a historical review of the development of written and oral language and its effects on the history of language and text, an analysis of modern media will be carried out using selected examples. The focus is on journalistic text types, films and television discussions, above all modern Internet communication. In addition to the question of media-induced language change, the goal of the seminar will be to discuss media pedagogical instruments against hate speech and cyber bullying, fake news and internet trolls. The main topics that will be covered in the course are:

6. language in modern media: chats and blogs, games

7. language in modern media: language change

9. hate speech and cyber bullying
